Discernment Discipline II – Metacognition
Metacognition in the Boardroom

What follows is Lyceum’s Director Practicum derived from Lyceum’s article Discernment Discipline II: Metacognition – a structured set of practices designed to help boards and individual directors apply metacognition deliberately, visibly, and under real conditions of speed, uncertainty, authority, and emerging consensus.

The purpose of this Practicum is not to make boards slower or more hesitant. Used well, this Practicum helps convert metacognition from an abstract idea into a repeatable board discernment discipline – one that strengthens judgment without producing paralysis, and that improves the reliability of board decision-making under real conditions.

This Practicum is organized in five parts:

A. For the board
B. For the Individual Director
C. A Practical Checklist for Major Decisions
D. Leadership and Live Boardroom Application
E. Application in Director Selection Interviews
